Waste processing units coming up at a snail’s pace
While the BBMP has stopped dumping the city’s waste in the landfill in Mandur, it is yet to achieve significant progress in setting up new waste processing units. According to senior officials, the BBMP has achieved some 30 percent progress in setting up units in Subbarayanapalya, Kannahalli, Lingadeeranahalli, Seegehalli, Doddabidarakallu and Chikkanagamangala. The total processing capacity of these units will be around 2,000 tonnes. the new units are likely to be commissioned in another two month’s time. The BBMP has decentralized the monitoring of the existing and new processing units to the respective zones. The main reason for such decentralization was the shortage of engineers in the head office.
