Cubbon Park continues to shrink:Survey [%new%]
Garima Singh- Cubbon Park, the city’s premier lung space is shrinking at a frightening pace. The 240-acre park is believed to have dwindled to 192 acres according to the horticulture department. A recent survey has found further shrinkage of the park, which is yet to be quantified. The department of survey settlement and land records found atleast 14 buildings in the park. The survey was undertaken at the instance of UPA lokayukta, who has initiated moves to quantify the extent of loss of the park area. Not all buildings are encroachments though. Additions to most of these structures were carried without proper documents. Private constructions, too, have committed illegalities. Following a complaint by the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, UPS Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi had ordered a re-survey of the park in September.
