Legislators will have club on a 7 acre plot [%new%]
After sparing the Balabrooie guest house under pressure from citizens, the public works department has identified a new location for a legislator’s club i.e. a seven acre plot next to Anugraha (the official residence of information technology minister SR Patil). This piece of land has quarters for Group C and D employees who will be relocated to quarters being constructed near Crescent road. The proposal, in the final stage of preparation, will be sent to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and PWD minister HC Mahadevappa for approval.
However, all the seven acres will not be used for the club. About 1.5 acres may be used without disturbing the surroundings. Nothing has been finalized and the cost is yet to be worked out. Furthermore, six new bungalows for ministers will come at the same location. While 1.5 acre area would be used to build a club house for legislators, the remaining area has been earmarked for the bungalows. Out of 30 ministers only 17 have been allotted bungalows since government is facing a shortage of official houses for ministers and the opposition leader. Other ministers are asked to find rented accommodation for which the government pays Rs. 1 lakh a month as rent for each house.
