High Court: Won’t tolerate Borewell Deaths [%new%]
High Court, through chief justice DH Waghela, strictly ordered that it will not tolerate even single open borewell death now. The HC also asked the government to furnish all details regarding such wells lying open in the state after hearing a suo moto PIL filed by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. It is seeking to prevent the deaths of kids after falling into abandoned borewells and tubewells. Expressing concern over the increase in such fatal accidents in country, the judges said a lack of seriousness among parents and the genral public id responsible for this.
Referring to the Supreme Court guidelines, the judges said that it is incumbent upon the State government to issue a final order or circular pinning the responsibility on erring officials, pertaining to both criminal as well civil consequences of a mishap/disaster.
