There will be a delay by the government in auctioning 51 ‘C’ category mines as directed by the Supreme Court. The delay is due to technical and procedural problems being faced by the State-owned Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. in accessing the remaining iron ore reserves in these mines.
The main aim of the government is to generate more revenue from the auction of these mines and transfer the proceeds to Karnataka Mining Environment Restoration Company Ltd., a special purpose vehicle formed to implement the project under the Comprehensive Environment Plan for Mining Impact Zone in the three districts of Bellary, Tumkur and Chitragurga.
